Well-known both in Hollywood and on the music circuit, Jennifer ‘J-Lo’ Lopez has been wowing audiences in both theatres and on the music scene with her glamorous looks and superb sense of style. In 2003, J-Lo brought her sense of fashion to the people by launching her own line of clothes and accessories called ‘JLO’ and despite some controversy the actress and singer has proved a major hit, leading to other equally popular lines such as Sweetface and Justsweet, all of which have caused a regular stir on New York’s fashion scene.
Her presence on the music scene is a strong one, having played a judge on American Idol in their hunt for the next big star while also doing promo work for her new musical project which is tipped to be a contender for success in the charts. On the fashion front, J-Lo has continued her designer brand Justsweet with a new summer line that continues its mission to liberate the wardrobe with edgy designs combined with contemporary style to create accomplished looks.
That’s not to say that J-Lo can’t create a stir on her own, however. June saw the Hispanic singer and actress dropping jaws at the Children’s Benefit Concert as she swept into the event in a red cocktail dress made of satin with a stylish mantle and tied-back Governess hair to reveal her naturally beautiful face, made even more stunning by a compliment of diamond jewellery; her favourite rock and one that certainly suits her.
Not without a sense of fun, though, J-Lo turned up in London wearing a hoodie-suit while in town for the final of ‘So You Think You Can Dance UK’ before turning up the heat last Wednesday in a white and white-buttoned tuxedo jacket, and little else, in chic-central Paris on Wednesday.
Though a master of many styles, J-Lo retains one common feature across looks and that is with subtle yet elegant jewellery pieces that compliment her looks without drawing too much attention away from them, the same ethos that she states is at the heart of her Justsweet clothing line; to compliment the features rather than steal the show. Her forays into larger jewellery, such as hoop earrings and a chunky bangle during a promotional event for Blackberry, are usually also accompanied with smaller items, such as slender bracelets and necklaces, to soften the overall look and again draw attention to the figure.
Such is her mastery with jewels that J-Lo has recently secured a promotion contract for the Spanish company TOUS, that specialises in J-Lo’s preferred rock; the diamond. As if born to represent such pieces, she began photo-shoots in the Spring and her diversity in being able to sport many different looks made the affair a resounding success. All girls love diamonds was the line said J-Lo herself when asked about the shoot and from the look of things, diamonds love her as well.
It naturally goes without saying because of her forays into acting, singing, and designing that J-Lo has plenty of energy. The mum of two always has time for work and her family and doesn’t seem to ever run out of energy, with a hectic schedule planned beyond the promotion of her new album. Through it all, expect to see her always looking her best, and always with a valuable piece of her favourite jewellery doing its bit in bringing out her fine features.
So what now for J-Lo, the woman who has seemingly done it all and done it well? It’ll be all engines go of course, because there’s been promising responses to the Summer fashion line of Justsweet, her album is coming out, and there will undoubtedly be more modelling work in the pipeline after the TOUS success. At the moment, it seems that J-Lo can do whatever she wants and what she wants to do is carry on the good work on all fronts; her younger rivals would do well to take note.
